Entry from: South Island, New Zealand Entry Title: "South Island tour" Entry: "Kaikoura Collecting our campervan early, we carried on our tradition naming him 'Basil' backpacker! After a quick stop picking up some food, we drove up to Kaikoura for our first night's stay on the South Island. Once there, we went straight out from the campsite on a long walk taking us to the seal colony at Kaikoura penninsula. We then headed back to camp with weary feet after the return walk being further than we remembered and enjoyed a relaxed night snuggled up in the camper. Hamner Springs We planned our next day with a visit to the alpine village of Hamner springs to experience the thermal spas - our skin felt amazing afterwards though a strange sensation being in sulphur pools of 40 degrees! With a stop in the village for lunch at a picnic spot overlooking snow-capped mountains, we had the long drive to the West coast for our overnight stay in Greymouth. Glacier County Having had freezing showers at this campsite, we warmed up in Basil and made our way to the glacier county, firstly coming to Franz Josef. We had a look through its township and drove onwards to the glacier access walks, taking the walk up to the glacier terminal face and a shorter walk to 'Peter's Pool' with a view of the glacier in the background ...
